Hanson Builders Recognized for Building Sustainable Homes

We’re excited to share that Minnesota’s Green Path recently recognized Hanson Builders for building sustainable homes in 2024 through its Designated Green Path Builders program!

Minnesota’s Green Path is the leading energy efficiency and green building program for residential construction in the state. It promotes green building by rating and certifying homes based on five main categories: energy efficiency, indoor environment quality, resource management in construction, water management, and land use. Hanson Builders’ 2024 Sustainable Building Recognition

Hanson Builders achieved Advanced Certification from Green Path for four homes in 2024. This status is reserved for homes that meet exceptional criteria for energy performance and sustainability. We’re incredibly proud of our team for this achievement and grateful to be recognized as a leader in high-quality, sustainable home construction.

“The Minnesota Green Path program sets high standards for energy-efficient construction, and by being part of it, we ensure that every home we build meets these rigorous guidelines,” shares J.D. Hanson, president of Hanson Builders. “This not only helps us deliver homes that perform better and use less energy but also positions us as leaders in the industry when it comes to environmentally conscious building practices.”

Sustainability by Design

To celebrate this achievement, we wanted to share a few ways in which quality and sustainability are embedded into every phase of our construction process.

Blower Door Tests

One of our key energy efficiency strategies is the blower door test, which we conduct on every home. This test identifies air leaks throughout the home, allowing us to address them before moving on to the next phase of building. Many builders conduct this test, but few take the results as seriously as we do. We take great care to eliminate any leaks, ensuring that our insulation and sealing work meet the highest standards of energy efficiency.

High-Performance Materials

We also install high-performance windows and superior insulation materials in all our homes, both of which reduce heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. This helps homeowners save on utility costs, reduce their carbon footprint, and stay comfortable all year round.

Long-Lasting, Top-Quality Craftsmanship

But sustainable design is about more than just reducing energy consumption—it’s also about creating a home that will stand the test of time. That’s why we place such a strong focus on quality construction and longevity. We prioritize the use of durable, high-quality materials that reduce the need for future repairs and replacements, minimizing waste over the long term. This also saves homeowners from the costs of these repairs.

By incorporating these building practices, Hanson Builders not only ensures energy efficiency and year-round comfort but also reduces the environmental impact of our projects. We’re proud to build sustainable homes that benefit both homeowners and the environment.

Committed to the Future

We are honored to be recognized by Minnesota’s Green Path for our green building practices, and we pledge to continue this work into the future. We are committed to building sustainable homes that are efficient, durable, long-lasting, and healthy for the families that live in them.
